An update is a minor revision that typically includes updated features and bug fixes. An upgrade contains signifcant new features, compatibilty with new hardware and compatibility with new versions of Mac OS X.

An update to version 2.0.2 is 2.0.2a, while the first upgrade to version 2.0.2 will be 2.0.3.
