Jeff Mains graduated from UCO in 2005 with a degree in Graphic Design, and recently put his education to the test redesigning and refurbishing an Oklahoma City building, effectively transforming it into the city's most complete skateboard gear and apparel store - Arockalypse.
The industrial materials, exposed hardware and wood accents of Arockalypse's interior are almost a metaphor for a skateboard. The concrete floors evoke the image of old-school clay skate wheels and lead to the steel racks and display case, which would be the trucks, or hardware, of the store. Using a natural, warm color pallet and inconspicuous lighting throughout the store, the space draw one's attention to the massive walls of raw decks and skate shoes - two skateboarding essentials.
"The skate scene needed this store," Mains said. "If you don't have a good scene, kids will drop out, and I want this to be a central hub for the community."
Evolution and flexibility being the key concepts behind Arockalyspe's retail philosophy, it's clear why Mains chose LightSpeed POS when opening in March 2007. This is perhaps best illustrated by his reply to our question of whether he would recommend LightSpeed to other businesses.
